Starting a design project can feel exciting and a little overwhelming at the same time. You might have inspiration saved, a renovation on the horizon, a builder asking for decisions, or a short term rental that needs to feel more polished and profitable. The free 30 minute discovery call is where we encourage you to start with us.

The Discovery Call is a friendly first conversation to see where you are, what you need, and how Veronica Solomon Interior Design can help. Thirty minutes gives us enough time to understand the big picture, ask smart questions, and explain the next best step. And no, there’s no rush. If your project is still in the idea stage, that’s completely fine.

A calm first step before the bigger design decisions.

During the call, we’ll begin with the basics. What type of project are you planning? Is it a new build, a remodel, a furnishing project, a vacation rental refresh, or a home you’re preparing to sell? From there, we’ll talk about the areas involved, what’s working now, what’s frustrating, and what you’d love the finished space to feel like. We want to hear that grand vision that you have for your project.

Then we’ll get into timing. This matters more than most people realize. Interior design projects involve layers, including planning, selections, ordering, contractor coordination, installation, and finishing touches. If construction is already moving, the conversation may focus on urgent decisions like cabinetry, lighting, tile, plumbing fixtures, flooring, or paint direction. If you’re planning ahead, we can talk about the best time to bring a designer in so the process feels calm instead of reactive.

Budget is part of the call too, and we talk about it in a practical, judgment-free way. A clear budget helps us guide you toward the right level of service and the right project path. Maybe you need guidance before making key decisions. Maybe you need full design development, project management, and furnishings. Services range from a simple 2 hour design consultation for guidance, to full turn-key design, management and furnishings. The discovery call helps us understand which level of support makes the most sense.

We’ll also ask about your preferred working style. Some clients want a designer to lead the entire process and manage all the details. Others want expert direction while staying very hands-on. Builders and remodelers may need a design partner who can help clients make decisions faster and with more confidence. Real estate agents may be looking for design support that helps a property show better. Short term rental owners may need beauty, durability, and a guest experience that photographs well. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, so we talk it through.

Another important question is whether you already have a contractor. If you do, great. We can discuss where they are in the process and what design decisions they need next. If you don’t, that’s okay too. We can talk about whether contractor recommendations may be helpful and what you should know before bringing one onto the project.

Common questions come up on almost every discovery call. People often ask how early they should book, whether their project is too small, what happens if they’re not ready to start right away, or whether design help is available outside a full remodel. Many want to know what happens after the call. The answer is simple. If the project seems like a good fit, the next step is scheduling an in-home consultation.

That in-home consultation is where we can see the space, understand the architecture, review existing conditions, and talk more specifically about the design direction. A phone or video conversation is great for the big picture, but being in the home lets us notice the details that shape the final plan. Measurements, lighting, ceiling heights, natural views, traffic flow, storage needs, and construction realities all matter.

For more complex projects, there’s another option. A one hour design detail call can also be booked at no cost. This is especially helpful if you’re working on a large remodel, a whole home project, a new build, multiple properties, or a short term rental with several moving parts. That extra time gives us more room to talk through scope, timing, decision points, and the kind of support you’ll need.

A few details can help make the call more useful.

To get the most from your discovery call, come ready to talk openly. You don’t need a perfect plan, but it helps to have a sense of your vision. Think about what you want the space to feel like, what you don’t like about it now, and what decisions are keeping you stuck. If you have inspiration photos, floor plans, builder notes, or a rough wish list, keep them nearby.

It also helps to think about your timeline before the call. Are you hoping to furnish a home before guests arrive? Are you trying to make selections before construction begins? Are you planning for a move, a listing date, or a future renovation? The more we know about your timing, the better we can advise you.

And yes, talk about money. A realistic budget helps protect the vision. It also helps avoid wasted time looking at options that don’t fit the project. You don’t need to have every number figured out, but sharing a comfortable range gives the conversation direction.
