The consultation is an important step for a detailed evaluation of your space and seeing ways to unlock its full potential.

We take the time to listen to your needs - what's not working for you, what you envision for the finished space, and combined with our vision, we can begin to provide on the spot ideas that you can get excited about. We later develop these ideas into a comprehensive design plan and implementation, that will answer all your needs and solve every problem, resulting in a fully functional and beautiful space for you to enjoy for years to come.

A major part of of the design process involves a detailed evaluation of scale, flow, function, and finally, the materials and finishes that add the luxury touch. Each element that we curate is about transforming the everyday function and ambiance of your home.

This comprehensive evaluation starting with the in home consultation ensures a holistic approach to designing your space. Each element comes together like a puzzle piece. Being able to align all the intricacies and the subtle complexities between these design elements is what we are known for, and what makes our work unparalleled. We thrive on the details and excel in creating luxurious yet functional spaces that are bold and uniquely yours.

What's Included In An In Home Consultation:

The beauty of a professional consultation lies in the details. It’s about seeing your home through a fresh, expert lens and uncovering possibilities you might not have considered. For example, a simple change in lighting can completely alter the mood of a room. Or rearranging furniture can open up space and improve flow.

Although each consultation is unique and focused on the individual project, these are some of the typical things that we touch on.

  • Onsite analysis where we get to know you and your goals, understand your needs and any specific requirements for the space and provide you with an action plan.

  • Observing how the space flows now and looking for opportunities to improve and maximize flow.

  • Observing the ways the space functions now and look for ways to improve functionality.

  • Understanding your lifestyle needs now and how you wish to use the space in the future. We determine this by asking the right questions.

  • Discuss initial thoughts, ideas, functional needs and make suggestions for a design and style direction.

  • Discuss materials and finishes.

  • Offer resources and practical information of how contractors work.

  • Discussion of how a remodeling or new build project flows, who is responsible for what and even some of the potential logistics involved with your project.

  • Walk through of each room to get a better feel for style direction.

  • Recommendations for furniture layout.

  • Discuss a preliminary budget.

  • Discuss project timeline.

  • Discuss how we work with contractors and how we advocate for you.

  • Ideas on how to mix patterns, styles, antiques and heirloom pieces, and incorporating your existing pieces.

  • Explanation of the design process, how we work and what to expect.

  • Answer any other questions you may have.

By the time we leave your home, you will be a lot more educated about the design process and will understand why it is best to have a trusted team like ours by your side.

This approach ensures your home is not only beautiful but also functional and comfortable. Plus, it saves you time and stress by having a clear plan from the start.

Why An Expert Consultation vs Going It Alone?

While our expert design consultations are about a full assessment of your space and providing design ideas, it is the step that is needed to later develop these ideas into a personalized roadmap tailored to your lifestyle, preferences, and the unique characteristics of your home.

Having us steer the ship as you navigate the intricacies of a remodeling, new build or furnishings will give you peace of mind. You want a seasoned professional firm like ours who understands trends, timeless styles, practical solutions and the industry as a whole. We help you avoid costly mistakes and ensure every choice enhances your home's beauty and functionality. From selecting the perfect color palette to optimizing space layout, our expertise is invaluable.

Going it alone - especially without any experience, means that you don't know what you don't know. We absolutely advocate for doing your own research to understand what the next 3-12 months of your life will entail, but you can only be fully prepared for what's ahead if you've experienced it before and had to solve problems along the way.

Things To Look Out For:

  • Onboarding contractors and making sure they and their subs have the proper documentation and licenses to work on your project.

  • Reviewing bids to make sure you are getting the best pricing and the full scope is included and accounted for.

  • Budget reviews - ensuring that your budget is being maximized and there is no wasteful spending.

  • Who is responsible for what - permits, design questions, HOA approvals.

  • Logistics - where do the trades use a bathroom, temporary kitchen set up, where do material deliveries go, dumpster or Conex container in the front yard or not.

  • Access - when do the trades have access to your home. Will there be a lockbox or key access or does someone need to be home at all times.

  • Where will their tools be kept.

  • Scheduling - how will the GC's schedule work with your schedule.

  • What are their plans to cover surfaces and cleanup so your home doesn't feel like a construction zone after workers leave each day.

These are just a few things to look out for that can get overlooked if you go it alone.

I have seen homeowners take on a remodeling project on their own, and while they may have gotten to the finish line eventually, they had many battle scars to show for it. You want to avoid these battle scars and trust our team to advocate for you.

Practical Tips to Prepare for Your Home Design Consultation

We don't love to give our clients homework, but to get the most out of your expert home design consultation, preparation is helpful. Here are some actionable tips to help you get ready:

  • Gather inspiration: Collect photos, magazine clippings, or Pinterest boards that reflect your style and vision for your space.

  • List your needs and wants: Be clear about what you want to keep, change, or add. It is good to know your must-haves and like-to-haves.

  • Share your floor plan: If you have a floor plan of the space as is, please share them with us ahead of the consultation.

  • Set a realistic budget: Knowing your financial limits helps guide material and design choices.

  • Be open and honest: Share your lifestyle habits and any challenges you face in your current space.

  • Don't clean just for us: We want to see what is not working now for you. We want to see the space in a honest way to understand what issues you have with its functionality

Remember, this is a collaborative process. The more information you provide, the better your designer can tailor the plan to your unique needs.
