When our past clients called us for an update of their Ironwood Estate Katy master suite, we jumped at the chance.

We have worked on several projects over the years for this pair of doctors, and we absolutely have loved every single one.

The same client, in the same house.

We have actually done several more projects, like the media room, where we did a gorgeous antelope carpet. The study, where we did some gorgeous built-in bookcases complete with a library ladder, and their son's bedroom suite.

We even did the master bathroom (a small refresh) and full closets in this round, but we never did professional photography of these other areas.

Here is where we started with this master bedroom.

Master Bedroom - BEFORE

My clients love a more modern look, with not a ton of bright colors, though they do appreciate a good layer of some color.

We liked the original bed and even planned to keep it at one point, but the cost to reupholster in another leather to refresh it was a bit higher than expected, so I recommended to my clients to let's get a new bed that would be a bit more dramatic in the room. Especially since we were going for a neutral tone-on-tone color scheme.

The thing about working with a neutral tone and tone palette, is that you must bring in interest through subtle patterns, like we did here with the rug, drapery, duvet and pillows; lots of visual texture, like we did with the coverlet and shams; variation of the same colors; and layering accessories and greenery.

The room before had some really heavy polyester draperies for both privacy and light control. The fabric and hardware was very dated and it was definitely time for an upgrade.

We opted to do two layers of window treatments for more flexibility. We chose a beautiful ribbed-texture fabric for roman shades in blackout lining. We motorized the middle one since it was larger and the opening is actually a door out to the backyard.

We then added unlined custom sheer drapery panels.

One of the first things we did in this room was to paint the walls in a light taupe, and add a slightly darker color in the tray ceiling. We also upgraded the dated fan, to a much more modern style.

I just love the hint of brass that makes something as utilitarian as a ceiling fan, look just a bit more stylish and intentional

Instead of lamps, my clients preferred to keep the nightstand surfaces open for books that they read before bed. We chose these beautiful modern pendants on two separate switches over the nightstands.

We also made sure they included a bit of the brass accents, which is also present in the landscape artwork flanking the headboard.

We even opted for nightstands with open shelves for more room for book and tablets.

A sleek dark wooden dresser is adorned with decorative items and greenery, complemented by a large, serene landscape artwork on the wall above, creating a sophisticated and calming atmosphere in the bedroom.

We opted for three round ottomans at the foot of the bed instead of a solid bench like they had before. We chose ottomans because 1) they are easier to pull in front of the chair for just a bit more comfort, and 2) the footboard of the bed is just as beautiful as the headboard, and we didn't want to fully cover it with a solid piece of furniture.

The ottomans were a great opportunity to bring in a bit of color. We chose green in one of its more neutral interpretations. Same for the blue accent pillow on the bed. The color is a bit more shaded, and reads as more of a neutral color in this space.

If you look at the plush rug and the artwork, you can find just a bit of blue and green to balance out the ottomans and pillow.

A sleek, modern chair adds elegance to the master bedroom, complemented by a tall potted plant and stylish decor.

We are so happy with the way this room turned out.

I was happy that a few of my signature motifs made it into even this modern, neutral space - animal print in the duvet cover and pillows, and stripes in the accessories. Both classic details that I love to incorporate in my designs.
