In the realms of fashion and interior design, they have long been separate entities. But looking closer, one can easily see the similarities between the two domains.
Fashion and interior design both serve as avenues for creative expressions, personal taste, values and aspirations, and often times a clothing ensemble can be a good indicator of the interior design style of the wearer.
Let's examine some of the similarities between fashion and interior design, and we will hopefully see how one can influence the other.
Fashion, Interiors and Identity
I remember completing the lady's office space (pictured above) in the ASID Willow Creek Ranch Showhouse back in 2017.
The space was a small storage closet that the clients decided to make an office for the lady of the house after the plans were completed.
We took this small space and gave it an identity of boldness and sophistication without departing from our brand identity of a good pattern mix.
The lady of the house is a jeans and linen shirt kind of gal, so the space was not designed for her (since it was a showhouse to showcase by signature style).
The point of sharing that backstory is that while she loved the room and remarked how gorgeous it is, it was not her style and definitely not her identity. The rest of the showhouse was designed for her, laid back and casual.
Fashion, Interiors and Making a Statement
The power of making a statement is central to both fashion and interior design.
On the fashion runway you can often time see how one piece can make a statement, and that tends to be true in the world of interior design.
One strong piece like artwork, a dramatic chandelier, a sculptural chair or a mix of gorgeous textiles can be the statement making features in a space.

Color plays a crucial role in fashion and interior design, shaping the atmosphere and eliciting emotions.
We are know for our use of color, because we understand that like the colors you love to wear, most people like to surround themselves with the colors they love.
Colors seen on the runway always make their way into interior design, from paint, to accessories to textiles. It is a great way to find color inspiration as you look to design your personal space.

A good pattern mix requires confidence when it comes to fashion, and the same applies to using a bold pattern mix in your interiors.
There is an artform mixing patterns - scale and harmony must be considered. But pattern-mixing whether in an outfit or your home is a great outlet for creativity and self-expression.

Just like in the world of fashion, there is always a place for vintage pieces in an interior space.
Vintage brings a bit of soul, charm and history wherever it is applied.
Vintage adds that accent that contrasts beautifully with a more modern aesthetic.

Fashion always paves the way for upcoming trends in interior design.
The revival of maximalism started on the runway from fashion designers and brands like Gucci and is reflected in the landscape of design where layered patterns, intricate textures and vibrant colors are prevalent in materials like wallpaper, textiles, rugs and even paint colors.
Fashion, Interiors and Luxury
Luxury in the fashion world may be interpreted in extravagant gowns and rich textiles, but that is not always the case. Some fashion designers love an understated luxury that is more about authenticity, refinement and quality.
The same can be said for the interiors. The emphasis is how your personality is expressed in the space, how it supports your lifestyle and how it makes you feel, while remaining true to quality craftmanship and timelessness.

I enjoy my role as a designer where I get the opportunity to craft spaces that reflect the essence of all kinds of fashion—precision, elegance, and storytelling.
The connections that exist between fashion and interior design go way beyond just aesthetics; they focus on engaging experiences both visually and emotionally.
Much like the changes we see in fashion, the realm of interior design is also constantly changing. Regardless of these changes, the core principles of luxury, craftsmanship and personal expression remain.
For the discerning client, this blend of fashion and interior design creates a space that is not only luxurious but also highly personal and timeless.
